Broken Promises Have Made Her

Broken Promises Have Made Her
by Minna Von Walden

Her eyes were swollen, her head was pounding. One by one, the tears fell from her eyes. Sometimes slowly, sometimes swiftly. With each broken promise, another night spent alone. Each promise, given to her, wrapped beautifully, carefully tied with delicate ribbon. Each promise placed in her hands for her to hold tightly.

Crumbling like ash, each promise began to fall apart. The beautiful wrapping turning to black. Crumbling to tiny pieces that fell from her hands like charred pieces of paper. Catching in the wind, being carried up into the sky. Each promise gone, faster than it was given. The promises broken into pieces, floating away like ashes thrown from a fire.
